Annie
I had a fabulous time making Annie's cake. She was so fun to get to know and she looked absolutely stunning in her dress! I don't often get to see the brides when I deliver cakes... usually they are still getting ready or they are taking pictures, etc. etc. But Annie took the time to come over and visit with me for a bit. It's always rewarding when you get to see the brides reaction and hear them say they love their cake. Her reception was overlooking the Salt Lake Valley and it was a gorgeous setting! I happened to get a picture of the cake with the sunset in the background.. How often do you get shots like that?
To the cute new married couple.... Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon and an even better life together.

The Hardest Cake I've Ever Had To Make
Most of the time as a cake decorator, you are making a cake to celebrate wonderful moments in people's lives. From weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, or just for fun, cake has a way of drawing people in and enjoying what they are celebrating. Well, this cake was a bitter sweet celebration for me. I have never had to make such a difficult cake in my life. The cake itself was a simple one... a few daisies, some sugar clouds and balloons... but the reason for the cake was one that changed me as a person.
My sister in law had gone into her 6 month checkup and found out the little child growing inside of her had no heartbeat. It was tragic for our family as well as a great growing experience for all of us.
As I tried to figure out something I could do for them, nothing seemed enough until my brother told me they would be having a small graveside service and then a celebration of the love we all had gained for this little guy who left us before we even got the chance to get to know him. It was then that I knew what I needed to do. Most celebrations are ones that bring people together to honor those who have important events happening in their lives. In a way, this was no different. We all came together as a family to celebrate or honor the power this small little child had over us. A cake.. just like any other celebration was what would bring us together to think about this little baby who is now in heaven. It brought a sense of peace and comfort to the guests and a feeling that all is well.
It's cakes like this- that have so much emotion attached to them-- this is why I love what I do. I love to not only put my heart into my work, but the heart of my clients. If I can accomplish this, then I've done my job and I can be proud of what I do.

Birthday Cake
You would think that being a cake decorator, my kids would have fabulous cakes... well, as much as I'd like to say they are my first priority and I spend hours on them... it's just not true.
My little guy just turned 1 and he has a little blue dinosaur toy I patterned his cake after. I had been doing cakes and consultations all week, so when it came time to do his cake... well.. lets just say I was a little caked out. I think it turned out pretty cute for the hour or so I put into it. I guess I shouldn't really care... he's one for heaven's sake! He won't remember if he had a cake or not.
So for all you cake decorators out there... don't look at this one too closely.. You can tell I didn't spend much time on it!
Happy Birthday B!

Bridal Show- Grand America
The Grand America Bridal Show sponsored by TheBrideandGroom.com turned out to be an excellent show. We had such a great time meeting with all the cute brides and their friends, moms, sisters and of course the fiance's! Hat's off to all you guys who patiently walked around to booth after booth with a smile on your face!
With each show you do, I think you learn a little more. This show I decided to have cake samples. The cake samples were a huge hit! It's nice to be able to show brides that your cake will not only look fabulous but taste even better. I will for sure do samples for now on.
Thank you all who took the time to come and talk to me as well as those of you who booked your wedding cake through me. If it were not for you, all this work would not be worth it! I am so lucky to have such an awesome job and be able to talk and meet with people during some of the happiest times of their lives.
Thank you to all those brides who made The Grand America Bridal Show a huge success!

New Cake for Bridal Show
I decided to make a new sample cake for the Bridal Show at the Grand America this past weekend. I think it turned out pretty cool. It was inspired by a cake I saw in Martha Stewart Weddings (I love this website. It has great idea's)
